These are vintage Soviet images that I found on google - celebrating as we call it "The 8th of March" or Women's Day! Can you believe it's the 100th Anniversary? March has officially become the Women's History Month in United States but not too many people know about it especially that it's an International Holiday!! Like a real HOLIDAY, as far as I know in Ukraine and Russia people have the day off, I bet the whole Europe has the day off today! I hope United States will take pride in it, in the future years :)

Aah! I've been waiting for this for so long - I read the book in 2007 but have not read the second one that continues with the story line. Kate Hudson was perfectly casted as Darcy in my opinion but man, I hope it'll be good because, in the most part movies tend to dissapoint me whent they are based on books. I bet if it does very well in theaters they'll make the second movie - "Something Blue" by Emily Giffin.

I found this little paragraph in October issue of Vogue about Oh Land - she is an ex ballerina and who started writting music after an injury. Her parents are musicians and even though I get picky about electronic/computer music she seems to have a nice sound that's unique but still catchy at the same time.

Both videos are amazing, but have a theme of dance and a pretty beauty with a dark side.In the "Sun Of A Gun" her movements are so schizophrenicly put - it looks so captivating against the soft and airy fabrics of her dresses.

Crazy but so funny - I'd totally do it but I am not freezing my tush in the winter, maybe they should do it in the summer? By the way I have to admit some of them have really cute undergarments :)

I don't know if it's "okay" but it is funny and actually with all of the half naked ( ahh - soft porn? ) Victoria's Secret supermodels' bigger than life sized posters, splattered all over nyc, internet and tv - well, I have to say at least we are seeing real people and not airbrushed, sexed up dolls all the time.

I finished these (well somewhat)! It's not as perfect as I wanted but time was ticking away and I had to photograph them and send the pictures out. The first one is called "Whimsical Past" which is based on Ukraine and the second one is NYC called " Gritty Future".

This is the explanation that I wrote for the 2012 Calendar Contest of Cloth Paper Scissors:

“On the Street Where You Live” theme made me think of two places where I have lived and where I’d like to live. The piece “Whimsical Past” was inspired by the country where I grew up - Ukraine. As most of my childhood was spent there I was fascinated by the big golden-yellow domes that sit on top of the churches. I wanted to give the religious structures a bit of whimsical flare by using bright acrylic colors. The dominated blues and yellows in this piece are from the Ukrainian flag. Golden ribbon, papers and Ukrainian postage stamps are also a part of the painting.

“Gritty Future” is based on New York City. It’s a very complex environment with its’ many layers, bright colors, grey skyscrapers and so much to do and see. To express that I painted the buildings overlapping in front of the other, which intertwine with their’s own surroundings. The layered acrylic paint, collage, photograph and transfer paper all unite to give the viewer a glimpse into a chaotic but vibrant city.

January 1 - a trip to nyc to see Gogol Bordello at Terminal 5, take some pictures in the subway, stop at the Columbus circle to take some more pretty pictures and listen to the Christmas music as the lights change according to the beat, mosh pit with Bordello's crazy fans while trying not to break my camera, cell phone and I-touch.

January 2 - going home, tired and sweaty with bruises on arms and toes, the Empire State builing was very Christmasy, riding home - not on our usual train, uuum need to vacuum perhaps? a lovely meal from Josh.

I was looking through the September issue of Vogue and at the end of the magazine I stumbled on the work of Patrick Dougherty. It was a little picture but it grabed my attention. So, I googled and found that he had installations at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden this past August. Grrrrrrhhhh!!! If only I read this issue when it came out!!!!

But anyway, pictures are probably nothing compared to actually seeing it in person and be able to walk through his art, he reminds me of Andy Goldsworthy.

Starting new things...

...and not finishing others. I'm doing two pieces on "places". One piece on Ukraine and one about NYC. The city one is almost done but I am still stuck on this one, for some reason sometimes I go from liking what I am creating and then hating it but then liking it again.

With that - the whole process continues until I get tired of it, finish it, put it away for a long time and then surprisingly find it and in the end decide that I love it. I feel like I'm analyzing things too much.

My kitty Mura was riding home with me in my lap, a couple of weeks ago. We were coming from my parents' house and she just kept looking outside the car window, purrrrched up on my hand for about 45 minute ride :o

After drinking jasmine tea yesterday I spread the leaves on the watercolor paper, not knowing what to do but wanting to incorporate them into the painting. So, I glued them to to the edges of the leaves which gave it a neat texture.

It's still in progress but it feels like it's not connected as whole piece yet. I am scared of ruining it by going overboard and adding too much.

I stopped at some shops earlier today and got a few things. The Warm Glow candle is incredible and is made with vegetable oils in Indiana. The company has a whole list of crazy scents.

The metal container is actually an old make-up compact powder from an antique store - I thought it was for business cards.

So, I have been procrastinating with putting this up, (even though the November/December 2010 issue of Cloth Paper Scissors is out already) you can find my work published in the September/October 2010 issue!!

I was so excited, I even got half a page! The project was "Make it Pretty" for the 2011 Calendar of Cloth Paper Scissors and you can buy it here. Although my mixed media painting didn't make it to the calendar itself, I thought it was very nice of them to publish it in "Judges' Choice" section.

The Elemental Show is over but you can view it here. It's a collaboration of a few artists that I have admired for a while. You can tottally see their personal style of art making in each piece.

I don't think I've ever done a collaboration with another artist, it probably would be a bit challenging - you know trying not to step on anyones toes and affraid to cover up something that the other loves. But at the same time if someone is stuck in a rut and doesn't know what direction to take the painting in, another artist could apply a fresh perspective to it.

This was my first time doing cyanotype prints, there was a lot of surprises and frustrations, because I thought the blue would be richer in color. Although, adding lemon juice would make the color stronger - I'll have to try that next time.

On second thought, the more they dry the darker the color seems.

There are so many things I want to do and try to accomplish but feel like it's not right - not the right time, not perfect enough for me to accept things the way they are.

With this sticky summer weather, I have a goal not to wear jeans and shorts, well I want to "try" not to wear them. Instead, colorfull and breezy summer dresses will be on my list. I have noticed lately that when I do wear a skirt or a dress people treat me and look at me differently. I had two people imply that I am probably high maintance but my concern is what happened to looking put together these days? All we see are girls in short shorts, flip flopping around every single day. I just think it's nice to wear a pretty dress even if it's not a special occasion.

Pinhole Day on April 25, 2010

After deciding for a while, I think the larger pictures show a better point of view of my art and what I find interesting to shoot. These were taked on Pinhole Day, with one hole and two holes cameras.

There is one of myself in a plaid shirt - which looked so awesome when I first saw it developing, holding sharp, tools for uh killing? The last picture is a self-portrait is well. The rest are of a model, the one in a cut-away bathing suit is really dynamic. My favorite one - I called it "Engulfed" and you can see it here, where the model looks like she's giving birth while being eaten by the black dress. Although, haven't decided if it looks better the original darker or lighter version.

Photowork ‘10 - "Through the Mirror"

Barrett has its 23rd Annual National Juried Photography Exhibition. April 17th – May 15th, 2010.

It was juried by Nat Trotman -Associate Curator at the Guggenheim Museum of Art and he picked this picture. I was so ecstatic when I found out!

I have been dabbling in photography for a while but I've never really considered myself as a "photographer" but I guess I am now :)

This photograph is a negative and was taken with a pinhole camera which has two holes, so the double distorted image that you see was not created by the computer. I came in, in the middle of the shoot at the time when the model was sitting up - there is a slight hint of left shoulder but then she leaned down towards her legs and put her hands on her feet.

The top photograph is the original and the bottom one I enhanced to defind the overall image a bit. I feel like it makes it pop plus I love that bright white chair in the corner.

I am so late with this but I took a Ukrainian egg decorating workshop on Equinox Day and had know idea such a day existed until I found out about it and the whole standing eggs thing.

I couldn't decide what colors to use or what kind of designs to scribble on it, so I was the last one to finish my egg, not even I had to take the wax off at home but in the end I made my egg stand and it turned out kind of nice. Mine has the red design in the center and Josh made the center pink.

I really like the picture of the Buddha where he's surrounded with eggs and with the blue chairs in the background. I didn't realize that until after I took it.

Chronogram magazine put a little picture of my "Zig" piece in it's March issue - you can find it here on page 51! I haven't seen it physically in my hands yet but I am so excited! Even though the auction had passed already and I sold the painting it's still very nice of them! I didn't even know, I just found that out at Barrett Gallery, where they have an "Art of the Garden" show - I have 3 art pieces and an orange stone crochet necklace in that show.

I am also taking an abstract workshop at Barrett which has been so much fun. It's nice to be loose and free with the hand movements for a change.

So I decided to go to the silent auction for the Mill Street Loft's 30th Anniversary, even though I planned not to go. Go figure...I changed my mind the last minute and I am glad I did because it was a very nice event.

The place was stuffed with suited men and heeled women and I was like a lilly of the valley amongst all the pretty red roses. But I met two lovely people who ended up buying my mixed media piece. It was quite nice.

By the way I put up a few of my necklaces in my shop today :)

I have been fascinated by the color pink lately, although I am not a "pink girl". I have one bamboo pink scarf and a t shirt that I didn't even wear last year.
But for some reason I decided to paint my nails pink and incorporate it into my paintings. I especially find it interesting against gray.
